Grant Process Overview

The application process shall be confidential, the same as a lawyer-client relationship. All applicants must be receiving case management services through the Lawyers Helping Lawyers Assistance Program. Applications shall be verified for treatment efficacy and financial need by the Lawyers Helping Lawyers Assistance Program and forwarded to the foundation office. Applications shall be reviewed by at least two trustees of the foundation, and three trustees must review all requests more than $1,000.

Applications shall not be accepted from recipients who already received a grant and have not initiated good faith efforts to repay the original grant or who have failed to comply with the treatment regimen or recommendation.

Grants are never paid directly to the applicant.

Grant Policy Guidelines

Lawyers Helping Lawyers Foundation, Inc. funds are made available for the benefit of Oklahoma attorneys who are impaired by substance abuse, addiction or other mental health challenges in paying for their treatment or otherwise achieving their recovery.

Lawyers Helping Lawyers Foundation, Inc. funds are made available only when other resources are not available.

Grant Qualifications

Requirements
To be eligible to receive funds, and attorney must:

  • be a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association
  • demonstrate a financial need
  • make a commitment to repay the grant, either monetarily or through service, when able; and
  • execute the appropriate release, if requested

Note: Immediate family members (spouse or partner, and minor children living in the applicant's home) of the applicant, law partners or other interested persons are eligible to apply on behalf of the impaired attorney.

Types of Assistance
As approved by the Trustees, financial assistance for:

  • inpatient treatment
  • outpatient treatment
  • medication
  • other necessities of life
